Preserving Lichen

So the lichen really looked great about a year ago when I used it on my model.....now it looks really small and is sorta this crunchy green stuff.

How do you keep lichen looking good on a model forever?

Clear coat can sometimes (note the sometimes) keep follage looking fresh, or at least not curled up and dead.

Never gotten Future to go fully flat. Even with large doeses of Tamiya Flat Base.
