I was wondering if anyone has ever put resin parts in the oven?
The reason I ask is that I made a master for a part I needed multiple parts of and I cast them in Alumilte resin. I needed to add some detail to the parts that I made out of sculpey.....can I bake the resin part with the sculpey on it or is the resin part going to Melt/burn? Oh and the details that I added can not be added after they have already been baked.

One of the things you need to consider when using Sculpy and Super Sculpy is that they are oil based polymers. Baking at 125 for 15 minutes will not cure the sculpy and you will have the residual oil to deal with. When I sculpt in super sculpy I generally bake it at 200-225 for a couple of hours. This high a temp will most likely seriously damage the resin.
If you don't remove all of the oil from the sculpy, you will run into problems with painting in the future. I have seen the oil from uncured sculpy leach through great paintjobs after about 6 months.
My recommendaton would be for you to add the detail using Aves Expoxy Sculpt or Magic Sculpt. These are both self curing resins and will be compatable with the resin of the kit.
Hope this helps,
Mark

Well......I baked the part. I had the oven set at 275 and I baked the part for 15min. It worked quite well. All I really needed to do was harden the Scupey a little so it would hold it's shape. I'm using the part as a master for a new mold I'm making. The heat didn't seem to affect the resin. I still don't think I would want to leave it in the oven for any extended periods of time.
