Experiment with Castin Craft Mold Builder and Future...

I've often wondered about the effect of Castin' Craft Mold Builder Liquid latex, which I use as latex mask, on cured Future.

I performed a simple experiment. I thoroughly cleaned a clear Hasegawa Messerschmitt canopy with Windex. Allowed to dry throughly, the canopy was then caoted with Future and set aside to dry overnight.

The next day, I doused the canopy with a liberal coating of the Castin Craft Latex Mold builder I use as a liquiid masking agent. I allowed it to cure for a day and removed it.

Guess what? No clouding or etching of the Future by the ammonia-containing mold builder. The canopy was just as crystal-clear as the day it was placed in the package.

Next, I shall try it on a variety of acrylic colors to test the results.

I figured you all would want to hear about this one. It really helped me to get over this phobia with this mold builder.

I think that's going to be the real test, although many fully cured acrylics will be pretty resistant to ammonia. You can try coloring Future and repeating the test on something other than a clear canopy (it'll be easier to see the damage, if any).

Okay. I generally tint my Future with food coloring. I'll experiment on that.

As for paint brands to experiment on, I am going to hit Tamiya, PActra, Testors, tinted Future, DElta Ceramcoat, and Apple Barrel.

I was thinking of using blacks or blues for each to test. Good choice or not? I've got a big wing to scrub clean, and then paint them over.
