Does anyone know the difference between the two?

The 500 is rougher and can be used as a filler, the 1000 and 1200 work well as primers.

The numbers are a measure of viscosity. The lower the number the thicker it is. MS 500 is thick and soupy, almost a runny paste. Good for filling in scratches and pinholes. 1200 can be airbrushed, when mixed with about 40% lacquer thinner.

I airbrush 1000 on all my projects - and on my current one I've found airbrushing 500 to be quite useful as well as it achieves coverage faster and still helps with the scratches and such a lot more than 1000 does.

Answered in the other post, but basically, use the 500 for filling pinholes first, then put a coat of Mr. Resin Surfacer...a hotter version of 1000 for resin.
