Got a question about techniques, materials or other aspects of physically building a model? This is the place to ask.

Cleaning up uncured silicone- Goof Off

Post by davehal9000 »

For larger silicone pour projects I've got a set of plastic bowls I use. The only problem is getting the bowls clean afterwards. I use MicroMark 1:1. Anyway tonight I decided to try Goo Off, a product I picked up at Home Depot, and it worked great! Cleaned the white a blue goo right out of the bowls!

Okay. Stupid question maybe but couldn't you just wait for the silicone to dry and just roll it off ?

It's a two part mixture, measured in separate containers and mixed in a third. The third container is easy. Just roll it out. It takes a nuke to clean the other two...

Ordinary White Spirit/Turps will wash off uncured silicone. You can use it to clean your brushes too if you use a brush to add the first layer of rubber.

Is that "Goo Off" (a product I've never heard of before)

or "Goof Off" (a paint/chemical remover) ?
