Vallejo Air Acrylics...any tips?

Post by Keifer0999 »

Any tips/warnings for using these? Should I mix them and with what and in what ratio.

Thanks!

Hi Kiefer,
I use these almost exclusively.
The colours are superb, as is the adhesion to most surfaces.
They are premixed and will airbrush just fine as they are.
Vallejo sell a 'thinner' that they want you to mix with the paint.
I'm not convinced that it is not a gimmick though as I have seen no difference in the drying times.
This stuff is dry almost as it hits the model.
I shoot paint at 10-20 psi.

Just shake the bottle well, and add the thinner if you want.
I do buy the 'cleaner' product also but rinsing with water and/or white spirit does the job just as well. The cleaner does give the airbrush components a sort of 'oiling' to keep them smooth.

Remember to clean your airbrush thoroughly, take out the needle and everything. You should have no problems.

Now, if only I could find some time to build and paint something!!!

Hey no Problem!

I felt guilty giving them as I haven't been able to do any real modelling for about 6 months.

I have used these and have to say i do like them but you have to handle the kit very carefully after painting because with some plastics the paint tends to chip easily even with primer

I've been using these too, although very good and easy to use I've just got the Gunze Sangyo Acrylics (availble from modeldesignconstruction.com in the uk) and i have to say: WOW!

I really cant see me thinning these incorrectly, and they cover beautifully.

Although the dont dry as quickly as the Vallejo Air.

Whatever works for you.
