Need to modify a clear resin cast

I've got a clear resin canopy. I want to remove some of the 'detail' on the canopy so I can either just paint it on, or create it in another medium. Can I just sand and polish the clear resin, as I normally would other resin? Or is there anything else I need to be aware of, as I only get one crack at this...

Work slowly, with fairly fine sanding sticks. Always wetsand when doing this. Yes, you should be able to remove the detail without much trouble.
