painting pewter

Is there anything special I should keep in mind while painting a pewter figure?

I've got some of the wee Oberth class pewter ships that I'd like to try to paint and maybe leave the lower cone and the bridge dome bare.

Hi.

I started modeling by working on a few figures, and also flats over the past year of so. Like other models, simply wash the figures in warm, soapy water. Let them air dry completely before applying primer (some use a hair dryer to speed the process).

I always use white primer (matte enamel), as I paint with artist's oils, and the white primer will help the oils to "glow" with nice, bright results. To help matte the finish of the oils, I use synthetic turpenoid, which tends to eliminate the carrier in the oils (the source of the oils' glossy appearance).

No special treatment necessary for the pewter though...

Hope this helps.

Don't try to leave areas bare, it's better to use a chrome paint for those areas. A good primer is your best ally. I like Citadel or Armory, but I also use Gunze's Mr. Surfacer 500.
