the right pot

Post by qc »

wanting to pick up a pressure pot for casting. i've spotted the ones from harbor freight (both silver and black) and the craftsman from sears.

seems like i heard one is better than the other (silver and black pot from harbor freight), but i can't remember which is which and why. what about the one from craftsman?

also hear problems (occasionally) about the rubber gasket (keeping the pot airtight) deteriorating over time. are some pots gaskets better than others?

just looking to buy the right pot. can anybody show me a nice pot or how to pick the right one?

many thanks

I've decided to get one of these:

It might be worth looking into since you don't have to convert it.

I'd pay to never be shown a pressurized chamber pot!

:smoke: Smoke 'em if you got 'em.

I got a 2.5 gallon Pressure pot from harbor Freight. It is the Speedair. I have yet to test it, but it should work fine. Limited by the size 7 inches inner diameter by 9 inches tall. So it will also depend on size of the molds you plan to use.

I also got a PVC tank from US Plastic that is double the size of the pressure pot and will use that for larger molds. Just need to get plexi, and fittings to attach to the tank.

I would be very wary(even scared) to use a PVC chamber as a pressure pot.

I shattered a 12" diameter 1/2" thick clear plexiglass piece over my vacuum chamber... Thats 15psi maximum...

This one was specifically designed for high pressure. It is the same material used for some underground water plumbing. We will be doing tests on it first in a controlled environment.

okay,...

Do be aware that you won't have the weight of the earth on the pipe like when it is buried.... :|

[edit]
Just thought I would add,... the 1/2" thick acrylic worked fine for two
years before it imploded and threw sharpnel everywhere. :|

Pvc is one of those score and snap type of materials.
If you scratch it putting things in or pulling things out, or moving it around,
that counts as a score line...
