if you can live with 10 leds, the 4017 circuit in the electronic circuits help section will also work.
To get more LEDs you can build up a larger ring but the effect will not be a single off LED walking around the circle (or on depending on how you wire the LEDs). If the LEDs are wired to common ground, then one led is on at
a time (run way stripes). If they are wired to common positive then one LED will be off (rotating fan blade in front of a light source).
What you can do to get more LEDs is create part of a ring, with the LEDs labeled or noted 0 -9, then after the 9 th one, add more LEDs 0-9 in numeric order continuing in this fashion until you have the desired ring size/LED count. The number of 0th LEDs you have will be the number of vanes you appear to have, or number of bright spots (if you go with the walk on LED configuration).
To wire the LEDs to the 4017 tie the 0th LEDs to each other (either in parallel or series, series is better if you have a lot of LEDs since the chip has a current output limitation).
There is a fiber optic solution to the multi LED ring as well which we can talk about if you're interested.
If you want to go this route let us know, I can build up a diagram for you easy enough.

The short answer is that a random flasher probably cannot be changed to a simulated rotating/walking LED configuration.
If it was programmable and you had the code you could change it, but hacking the circuit probably won't work, unless:
Does it randomly flash in a particular pattern? You could rearrange the LEDs then.

I have several (2) examples of Fusion Core circuits already buildt I would not mind giving away but for postage. Practicly free! Reason being I loath modeling anything involving that lame show called Lost in Space! With the exception of the actress who plays Pretty Penny...Huba huba!

I got it Robi... Your #1 on the standby list.
Rest of you folks take heed that both units are now spoken for.
Be also mindfull since I loath Lost in Space further queries will be rudely rebuffed.
You have been warned.
POST SCRIPT One circuit is the Ron Gross circuit made back in the 90s. The other is more recent from Spark Chaser befor he went on standown from the lighting biz a few years back.
Good News.. Spark Chaser is powering up for a comeback. I talked to him recently, last week and he is setting up a web site. So you all can go pester him for ready made instant gratification Fusion Cores.

Zog sent in a diagram for lighting a ring of LEDs I posted them in the circuits sticky.
