Where can I get RTV rubber?

Where can I get RTV rubber? Best wood be stores (or type of stores) that would have it, far, far distant second would be online suppliers.

If you have a Dick Blick store near you, they have Smooth-on products and other mold making materials.

No, San Fran, LA, or Sactown look to be the closest. That's a helluva drive for me.

Local art stores often carry RTV and similar materials, or maybe you can find a nearby industrial plastic supply house that'll have RTVs. If you have a hobby store nearby, they may have the Alumilite starter kit; their RTV is pretty good.

That's going to limit your choices

Dick Blick carries Oomoo 25 and Smooth-Cast 300 - both are short working time items -

The Oomoo has a 15 minute working time and a 75 minute de-mold time - I use this as it's great for fast casting. Though I usually let it set for 2-2.5 hours (twice what it states)

The Smooth-cast 300 is wonderful stuff (I use it for my smaller pours)... if you can complete your pour inside of 2 minutes. They say 3 minute pot-life, but after about 2 minutes it's the consistency of molasses, and won't get into the nooks and crannies easily.

Your local hobby store might carry the Alumilite products - one of mine does, one doesn't - Hobby Town doesn't, though 2 of the 6 HT's in my area have some other brand of RTV and Resin in their Railroad section - but the RTV is a brush-on rather than a pour type.

I know some people have issues with On-line ordering, but I've done several orders with Smooth-On without one single issue. Fair prices, quick shipping, good communication. Sometimes dealing with the manufacturer is much better than with a distributor.

Good luck on your local search though.

Tap Plastics has their line of RTV mold rubbers(both urethane and silicone)as well as other brands I believe located throughout the bay Area nd a few places out of state on the north coast.Douglas and Sturgass is an art supplier in the Bay Area that carries a variety (they do mail order) as well as Micro Mark for mail order.

I echo this. TAP plastics is where you want to go. If you are at or near Sacramento, there is a store located on Auburn Blvd. The staff there are pretty helpful too.

There are Tap Plastics locations in S.F...at least 2-3 to my recollection?There is one in Okland,I believe Berkley,San Jose,Danville,San Leandro...they are concentrated in these areas.Just look in the phone book.Save yourself the trouble of S&H charges.I believe L.A has a Tap Plastics somewhere as well as San Diego.They have a web site too,so look for store locations nearest you.

I've no idea where you live?Do you live in/around Sacramento or are you out of the country...like in Germany or Austria?There's a Tap plastics in the Sac area also.If you live out of the country or on the east coast,you are stuck with mail order unless you can find something local.

Cold call the plastic shops and suppliers in your local yellow pages.
You might find a local distibutor or at least get recommendations toward
finding one...

No, I list my location as "Schwartzenegger Land"; California. Central Coast, just north of Santa Barbara.

You can order from smoothon over the phone rather than online. I have called when I realized I clicked the wrong resin, they cancelled and re-ordered it for me over the phone. Be sure and ask for the cheaper of the shipping, on the phone they will pick the faster of the UPS options.
