how exactly does "light sheet" work?

as it says above. and where do you get some? and what is the expected range on price? i'm looking to put this in my warp nacels. what is the longjevity like on this stuff?

What you asking about is Electroluminesant Lamps now comonly called EL Lamps. LightSheet was a brand name for the EL materials which is now unfortunatly out of bussiness.

In place of the absense of LightSheet I now get EL sheets direct from Miller Engineering:

The same kind of larger EL sheets I like to use is from thier larger Experimentor kits #2505 and stand alone sheet 4" x 6" #4601

I like using the Miller EL Sheet as these come from a modeling friendly company...ie Model Railroading. The service is first rate...E-mails are answered, easy to order on-line...ships within 24 hours ect...

Here is some getting cut to size and ready for use on the Enterprise "C"

They operate well at the lower than 6 volts range, closer to the votages of my favored hand made blinky circuits and LEDs with a series resister. The life time of the Miller EL sheet may be about a thousand hours...The instruction sheet says the half life of the EL is 400 hours which means it will be half as bright as when new. So don't leave it on all the time...afterall your lighting up a model... not making a desklamp.

I've been looking at the microstru.com webpage, specifically the #2501 Experimenter's Kit, the basic EL lamp assortment.

Now in the description it states that I can cut up to 6 lamps, will the one power supply include enough power/plugs to run all of these?

You cut it into six pieces and you have plugs included for five of them. The wires with the black ends are the individual plugs.

when using one of these in combination to LEDS, would you have to have a seperate board/power supply for the sheet and LEDs?
Ive never done lighting, and have the idea to use a sheet about about 5-6 LEDs on a kit, but dont know a thing about either.

I've got one of those lightsheet experiment kits I had hoped to light the cockpit of my Finemolds falcon with.

Hmmm, I wonder if they would make a cockpit set for the Falcon? They have some real nice railrod kits on their site.

Hi to all!!

This is my first post and, joy of joy, I found out here that LightSheet is still available!

I am just recently back on the net after a very long hiatus and many of my old resource URLs are either dead or have been replaced by doubtful 'Web Hosting Sites'. Its nice to know that good things persist.

I am a scratchbuilder and hope to show some of my work when I can get hold of a digital camera to upload the pics.
