Got a question about techniques, materials or other aspects of physically building a model? This is the place to ask.

I did this model.

I used "water effect film" from Faller for the water. It should be available in stores that carry model railroad stuff.

Good hunting!

is this like a sticker or is it more like resin type stuff? if it's more like a sticker how did you get to look like the ship is showing through like that?

It is more like sheet styrene, just clear and with the water-texture. The ship showing thorugh is simply a part of that model, the base is colored to look that way.

thanks for all the info, this should kick my model up the extra notch that i want. all of the resin stuff i've seen looks so fake and flat,no texture. on a lake it miiiiight get that windless and smooth, but on the ocean it'll never ever get that calm!

Silicone is another way to go, you can nicely form that stuff with a spoon to create vey cool looking waves.

I simply cutted the seafilm with a sharp hobbyknife.

Wakelines can be made by simply drybrushing the seafilm surface with white.
