Spotted yesterday at Autozone....

Post by zaphod »

I saw what look like CCFL tubes prewired for 12 V DC, coming in various lengths and colors. They terminated in cigarette lighter adaptors.
Also, there were LED spot lights, also for 12 V DC.
I can't seem to bring up a link, but if you go there, you'll see what I'm talking about. I was enthusiastic when I saw them, and plan to give them a try on an upcoming project.
I just wanted to tell you guys before I forgot. Has anyone been tinkering with these?

Advance Auto Parts has a good selection too. Advance also has EL string- 6 foot lengths real cheap.
I had a commission a while back where the client wanted big colorful UFOs with lights but had a small budget. I explored the bling lights available back then and was amazed how many options there were.
What sort of upcomingproject are you thinking of?

Advance auto parts in my area is getting out of the LED/Neon/EL kits and are starting to clearance them---I picked up (2) 15" Neon Blue LED kits priced at $27.99 each, for $9.99 each! :D

A bunch of their other lights were $9.99 as well. The store Mgr told me that in the coming weeks they'll start to blow out the rest of it as well. :)

The CCFL tubes are great for warp nacelles on Trek ships, and the spot light seem like they could go into the PL Big E saucer with little modification.
Thanks for the tip about the sale, btw.

I got these last year but they're either too long or too short for the both 1/350 PL Enterprise. Still, I bought it because well, over here, we never had CCFL for Hobbyists before. :D
