3D CAD modelling SW

Post by Brandlin »

not sure which forum to drop this in so if the admins want/need to move it please do so.

I'm looking for some FREE (empahsis on FREE) 3D CAD modelling software that will let me create relatively straightforward shapes and boolean them together.

I'm not interested in rendering and surface treatments but i do want to be able to unfold the wireframe model as though i was making cardstock patterns.

Do any of you guys have recommendations?

Thanks in advance for any suitable help.

Hello Brandlin,

I have only played with it, I think it was free, but look for "Metasequoia" Seemed pretty comprehensive, but I have not created anything wiht it... I think it will work for papermodels.

"Pepakura Designer"is what alot of cardmodelers use for unfolding, but only the reader is "legally" free...

Best,
Tom

Don't know if it"ll do what you're looking for but [on Kylwell's tip in another thread] I've just downloaded Google SketchUp. It's 3D CAD & free [SketchUp Pro costs, though].
