Decal help

Post by Stilgar »

Ok folks....I have had ALOT of help from the forums...and my PL NX-1 is looking very nice. I am now down to the final steps...DECALS!!!

The problem is that I have heard that the PL decals are VERY bad to work with (not sure why), and in addition I have had horrible experiences with decals in the past.

Hence I am begging help once again. Please provide any advice you have on how I should apply, seal, etc the decals. The model painting is done (with model master metalizer paint...AND sealer).

Im afraid if I just do it on my own I will cut out a decal, put it in water, and it will curl up into a useless mess!

Do I need to coat the model with something first? (Future floor polish?)
Any hints on actually applying many many tiny decals??
I read about micro-sol and liquid decal film, but need clarification on what they actually do...
Once I apply them, what is the best 'top-sealer'? (Futures again??...or ??)

Is this the sequence???...
1. Coat model with future (let dry at least 48 hours)
2. Coat decals with liquid decal film.. (??)
3. Apply decals... (need help here...how do I avoid the curl etc)
4. paint micro-sol on applied decals (is that right??)
5. after its all done....another coat of future..(?)

Any / all help appreciated.

Try this website by a great modeler Scott Craig:

For my own preference, i use Gunze-Sangyo Mr.Mark Softer. i find it easier to use than Micro-Set, but this is just me, To each is his own. Good luck and happy modeling!

Have you read the Decals sticky subject? Some great stuff in there...

Yes I have read the sticky on Decals. But they mostly seemed concerned with restoring old decals or yellowed decals.

That's the decal watchlist I wrote for several Wonderfest seminars. I should probably add some things to it, but the basics are all there.
