Severe Battle Damage?

Post by nightwing4532 »

Any ideas on how to realistically sever a wing off a TIE fighter? I want it to appear to have been blasted off about halfway down the pylon, and display it just after it comes loose. But I'm just not sure how to physically break the wing off the kit. Any suggestions here would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Take a razor saw, (or even a hacksaw), and cut the pylon off a little shorter than where you want the finished product. Then build up the blasted end with thin styrene and aluminum foil. The foil will look like crumpled, blasted metal because, well, it is. It will also have a scale thinness that looks better than just thinned plastic alone. Don't forget to stuff the hollow tube with greeblies: wire, old tank parts, bits of smashed up toys, etc.
I speak of the pompatous of plastic.

That'd be really cool to light it with some red LEDs or even fiber optics to simulate fire/sparks.

both excellent ideas... would you say a blast from an x-wing laser would have the same impact on the pylon as, say, a shotgun? A smaller hole in the back where it hit, and a massive "exit wound" from all the shrapnel being pushed through the front? And if so, suggestions on making that effect?

Try drilling multiple small holes along the path of destruction, overlapping and staggering the edge of the damage.
