Alternatives to Testor's Decal Bonder?

Post by CaptainHawk1 »

Are there any alternatives that are as effective as Testors Decal bonder? I don't want to spen $6 for that little can.

I have a bottle of Testor's Clear Coat laquer. Can that be thinned and run through an airbrush and used?

How about just spraying them with Future?

Are there any other hardware store spray can options?

As far as I can tell, Testors' Decal Bonder is nothing more than Testors' Dullcote, with a steeper price tag. If you already have a bottle of Dullcoat lacquer, you should be able to thin it and spray it thru your airbrush. Just be VERY gentle; spray very light misty coats and build it up gradually. You could try Future or some other acrylic varnish, but enamel or lacquer clear would probably hold up better in water. I've had inkjet printed decals, sealed with acrylic flat clear; the ink ran right off the paper as soon as I tried to move the decal into place on the model. I sprayed the remaining sheet with Dullcote (spray-can), and everything worked fine after that.

Hell, I have a spray can of Dullcote and a bottle of it... You just saved me a trip to the Home Depot.

However, for future reference are there any Hardware/Big Box sparay can alternatives made by Krylon or somebody?
