I have used many different types of paints, such as enamels and acrylics but what is the deal with tamiya acrylics?
they are acrylic paint, but i thought acrylic was water based, but the tamiya ones are clearly not water based, they have alcohol in them, so how can they be acrylic?
Question about Tamiya paints

Tamiya acrylics contain alcohol, but are considered water soluble. You can clean-up and thin with water, though it doesn't work as well as using alcohol or Tamiya's own thinner.
Many acrylic paints (but not all) can be thinned with alcohol, which speeds up drying time and can help in a few other ways as well.
Liquitex acrylics thin well with alcohol, but it turns Createx paints turn into a clogging gel. When I'm spraying Future, I tend to thin it a bit with alcohol and can apply a slightly heavier coat without it running.
