Post by paulk »

I am planning to install lighting in a Enterprise kit (1st time in lighting kit), and am seeking advise on how to wet-sand seams without getting the installed and trapped electronic parts (wires/leds, circuit boards, etc) wet which my damage the parts. Any advise will be appreciate it.

If you solder all connections, and embed any active circuitry in silicon seal / bathtub caulk you probably won't have any trouble, unless you submerge the whole model in the bathtub to do your wet sanding. I haven't had any problem with electronics and wet sanding, in the last half century or so.

If you're worried about water incursion, sand with the area you're working on DOWN so water flows away from the electronical parts.

You could also wait after you sand for a few hours before you hook it up to ensure any trapped water doesn't short any of your circuits.

Water, in an of itself, it's a horrible conductor, but it doesn't take much to bugger a micro circuit. If you can, seal the boards and let the model dry for several days after wet sanding. Pack some moisture absorbent packs around the model.

Then hope.

Or, take the easy road and don't wet sand it.
