Lighting and Sound for a TARDIS

Post by ScrubbyMonkey »

Hey all,

I was wondering if anybody had an idea of the type of circuit I could use to make the light for a Doctor Who TARDIS. It's just a flashing light, but the problem is that the light level "ramps" up and down, and does not simply flash on and off. I've heard this is more a navigation strobe type effect, but I'm not really sure. Is there a chip or circuit design that would accomplish this?

In addition, something that would accomodate sound as well would be great. I've looked all over the internet, and haven't found anything appropriate.

Thanks in advance for any help, it is appreciated. The wifey is really digging the idea of me building her a scale TARDIS.

PS. I would really prefer something that I could assemble myself, rather than pay out the nose for something that is already done.

I hate paying through the nose, gives me a sinus infection every time.

I thought there was something in the L&E sub-forum on just that. Let e dig a bit and see what I can find.

Thanks Kylwell, I ran a search as best I could through the forums, but being a moderator maybe you'll have better luck. Thanks for everything.

Kywell,

That first link gave me the idea to check out MicroMark, and they have exactly what I need. Thank you so much!

VoodooFX also has a simulator for a model lighthouse. The speed is adjustable, and can be made to be quite fast.

Here in the UK there was a toy TARDIS with much more and better lighting/sound effects than the kit. The beauty of it is that it is the same scale as the Airfix kit and it was being sold off for 6 GBP a couple of months ago.

They are still readily available.
