Bringing Back the SHine

Post by Paul Wagner »

I've just finished a model which is mostly silver (Tamiya silver leaf) with some grey highlights. I've Testors Dullcoted it over all the decals, etc, but I'd like to give it another coat of something to brighten up the basic metallic-ness of the thing - not gloss, but some kind of semi-gloss or satin finish (I need a contrast with some actual glossy bits).

Now I got some Tamiya "pearl" varnish which I thought would do the job - which is did nicely except for a nasty chemical reaction with some of the other paints (a Humbrol enamel gray) that resulted in disastrous blistering, sanding, repainting and general fussing around. So I'm not game to try that again!

What should I use?

Testors makes an acrylic semi-gloss, suitable for airbrushing, if that helps.
