I would like to hear from those who have tackled this. My thought is a rose pear, a light blue pearl, a white pearl and a gold pearl. but where to buy and is acrylic better than lacquer based please chime in
thank you

Not sure what you mean - but I had much success with semi-translucent "mother of pearl" effect lacquer (I think it was/is acryllic) over a colored base coat of acryllic paint.
I experimented with this combo some time ago on an anime character figure:

The body suit was painted in light blue, and then the acryllic effect lacquer sprayed upon it. The base color can still be seen, but the effect paint has a whitish hue. It was actually a car paint from the DIY store.
Tamiya also has a similar effect paint in a can, but IMHO it has even more white pigments and is only good for a white base, with a much finer shimmer.
Maybe this helps you a bit?
