Buzzbomb's Glaive Battle Tank

The challenge: build any kind of hover tank without using a tank kit's hull or turret - because nothing saus 'fun' like 70 tons of floating mayhem.

Finally.. I am underway.
I tossed a bits back and forth and settled on this an old Lucasfilm action figure wreck I picked up at a garage sale.. because the shape looked cool :D
Landspeeder thing

For the turret.. an old mouse
wobbly mockup

Ok so getting on toward where I want to be.. not quite the minds eye but close, using card and some electrical conduit for basic shapes
cobbling together
Frontal Aspect
Noisy whirly things
I plan to have the fans on gimbels somehow.. that's the plan.. what actually happens, we shall see.

Still quite a way to go with basic shapes and blending but the vision is getting there.

Undecided as to scale yet.. but leaning toward 1/48, the hull is 25cm long so that is a fair size so 1/35 may happen yet. That will be when detailing starts.

I am not much for backstory things.. I just build stuff.. but I will do my best

Looks good, Buzzbomb. :) Instead of gimbles, you could always just use moveable vanes to direct the fan blast ...

For gimbles, maybe a set of Heim Joints could work. I don't know if you can find the exact size you need though. It would give you directional thrust.

Might want to hide the true ID of that Theed speeder from EP 1 a bit more. Not exactly against the rules since its not a tank but i can still tell the thing it came from.

Sorry did not know it was a hiding show.
I thought the gig was to just not use AFV parts.

Who knew what it was :( it was just an interesting shape.
Do what I can to hide it.. but plenty to happen yet.

It's not a 'hiding show', BB - it is about not using existing AFV parts for their original purpose ... - AFV hulls for hulls, turrets for turrets, and so on. Some folks just like to guess, is all.

I was going to ask where you found that speeder - I've been looking for a good design of those things - hovercars/speeders - for years. :)

lurching back into progress...

Not huge amounts done but getting there
beginning to flesh out some of the details

now is crunch time on scale so I took a photo with both a 1/48 and 1/35 figure
Scaling shot

After looking at the pix I am leaning toward 1/48, although 1/35 scale as a smaller vehicle may work as well.. Nope.. 1/48..although.. but

Still a tad undecided it would appear :D

The scale is a tough call-I can see it working nicely either way, though
I'd lean toward 1/35. That scale makes it more like a light tank, along
the lines of the Scimitar/Scorpian family.

Anyway, keep at it, and cheer up! Our host and instigator has yet to
so much as acknowledge my builds, let alone offer any comment
on them. :?

Like Dr. Yo, I'd lean towards 1:35th but that's just the 1:35th armour modeller in me talking. :roll:

Some more minutes spent on this.. really, really need to extract a digit and finish this

That is a wickedly cool design, love the way the greebles made themselves a home. The best thing about this topic is seeing how items get repurposed to create such wonderful inspiring creations. Keep up the good work. :)s
