Thinning Scale Coat II enamel?
I finally ordered some Scale Coat II enamels to see if they're as good as Floquil. Their literature says use only Scale Coat thinner. So my questions for anyone who knows: 1. Is there any other cheaper generic thinner that works with Scale Coat? 2. Are today's Scale Coat II enamels compatible for mi...

Ohhhhh, the Internet. I've heard of that. Thanks.
Thanks, Naoto. How many times STILL do I post a question or just ponder and ponder without resolving a question without thinking, "I bet that's on the internet somewhere." Good videos. Really appreciate it.

Re: Heat discoloration on real metal?
Thanks. I picked up a can of the blue Metalcast to try. I figure it might have a better effect if it were thinned and diluted some someone's clear coat. Any ideas what's compatible?

Heat discoloration on real metal?
I'm looking to "weather" the real metal engine/thruster bells for the 1/48 Space 1999 Eagle. Has anyone tried that? Ideas how to do it? Yes, I could put a candle under it and it would wind up with black soot on it. Not sure how to do heat discoloration short of a small torch. Ideas welcome.

Re: Filling model rocket cardboard tube spirals
It's the rocket body tubes in the new (reissued) Estes Saturn V kit. I haven't tried sanding sealer in years. I was thinking white glue but that might not be smooth and it wouldn't sand. Not being one to wait, I've already given the service module enough coats of silver to mostly fill in the seams o...

What can I fill the spiral seams of a wound cardboard tube like those of model rockets? I doubt I can slap on putty as usual with plastic then sand under running water till smooth.

Draining a spray can?
I want to drain a spray can so I can spray it through my airbrush. Wouldn't one of those little plastic tubes that inserts in the nozzle - like on WD30 etc - do the trick? Where can you find those tubes? Other ideas? And I don't like the seal it in a bag and puncture it option.

Wiping off Washes
What's a good way to wipe off a wash and leave the paint in recesses? I have some pretty shallow panel lines and a cotton swab just removes everything. So do the tiny specialized pointy hobby cotton swabs. Maybe just a paper towel on a finger? Sometimes the simplest is the best.

Can you recommend a US source? I can find lots of 1/350 PE and plenty of 1/48 etc. PSP, but searching on a few terms I haven't come up with 1/350 PE PSP yet.

Sorry. I lost the ability to get notifications and Im just now finding this thread. I need something that looks like 1/350 Marsden Matting. Is that cloth or mesh? Preferably, it needs to be flat. I guess I could just press it into whatever material I use for my base.

Gunze Mr. Primer Surfacer spray can. Either 500 or 1000, depending on the part's detail and how much filling you need.
After that, you can paint with almost anything.
Nylon sands like rubber... not well.

Re: Adhesive-backed Foil
Thanks, guys. Dave, I hadn't thought of that. But if you're saying that if you lay down a big piece and rub down the general area and then trim out what I don't need, the excess will mar the surrounding paint, that's a good thought. I always wondered how BMF stuck since it didn't feel sticky. It is ...

Adhesive-backed Foil
This would include Bare Metal Foil or Microscale adhesive applied to foil. Does it matter whether I apply it to a gloss finish or a flat finish? Will it still rub down smooth? The model is glossed now. I'd rather wait till it's flat coated so I don't have to try to protect the shiny finish from a fl...

Nothing on the package beyond the preparation and warnings. A google search yields 'lacquer thinner and acetone." I will try the former and hope that doesn't harm the resin or the JB Weld.

So now I have a package of J-B Weld Plastic Bonder ("World's Strongest Bond") Sets in 15 minutes. I'd appreciate any tips for removing anything that oozes out of the seam or has to be sanded. Is there a solvent that wipes it away cleanly without harming the kit resin? Other advice?
