Re: Alternative to soldering wires for lighting
It can depend on the component / product, but the original Madman lighting sets had instructions that had a technique for twisting wire together. I never bought a set and can't find a copy of an instructions but my recollection was that one would stirp a length of wire (say an inch) and then form an...

One thing to keep in mind with open source and the spirit of giving and helping - it doesn't necessarily mean "free to do whateverthehell you want with it." If you come up with something neat and want to share it with others please make sure you note the requests of whomever you're using c...

A lot of accounts get hacked when users receive emails that request the user log in for some reason. If you receive a "your account was locked" or "please update your account" from any vendor, it is far, far safer to *not* click on the emailed links and simply open a browser wind...

Hey Rayra - how often do you personally handle the backups on that message board? How big is the database backup and how long does it take to run the backup and then copy it down to your home system? How about the upload and restore when you test that? There are actually some good reasons for keepin...

Just in case it isn't apparent since my last post may have come across as a bit cranky and critical - your efforts here are greatly appreciated. It's a good reason why I've ordered through the store several times.

It's a major PITA for admins *snip* The fact that this is a popular forum with thousands of active members means we are a perpetual target. That's the reality. I realize that there may be few people on the forum that you truly know and trust, but as systems get more used there's an increasing need ...

Maybe I'm imagining things which aren't likely, but how long until they go from spam to data theft? All of these posts are bot driven - pure program with no human interaction. Data theft these days is generally the same unless you are a high-value target (or work for one) in which case it warrants ...

Re: Switching windows between 2 light colors
You could get smart, addressable LEDs like the Adafruit Neopixels . While you'd only need one set of fiber per window you'd need a microcontroller of some sort to manage the switching. You might be able to get away with a regular RGB LED but I'm not sure what values you'd need to pump through to get...

It would cost more but something like this could cut down on the number of LEDs depending on spacing of the lights.

I frequently worry about the current state of IT -- with the increasing amounts of data involved, you'd think it would be reasonable make sure your IT staff is better trained than before. Unfortunately, most management sees IT and support as an expense and not an investment. I work as an outsourced...

Bolded text is the correct answer. My email doesn't connect the dots and I've set it up to be extremely literal and only report what people send.Kylwell wrote: ↑Tue May 30, 2017 9:55 amThat just means your email has recognized onezero@starshipmodeler.net as John Lester or that John changed his email settings here.

email notifications of topic replies are coming from the friendly name of John Lester instead of the previous OneZero. Not a complaint, just a comment in case that wasn't the intention.

Re: LED Filaments
Well bear in mind these things don't truly emit a 360 degree arc of light anyway. Which I think would be acceptable for light sabers in most cases. If it's upright, face the darker side towards the figure as most people won't be able to look through the painted plastic. If it's pointed forward, poi...

I like the way you think! First obstacle I see to that is the return circuit. How would you complete the circuit without a noticeable line through the light? Is there any sort of conductive clear coat?tetsujin wrote:perfect (for instance) for a 1/12 scale light saber.
