Re: thinning putty?

I wanna know if you can safely thin putty somewhat to sort of ooze into cracks and holes. It may be that thinner putty will shrink more because of the added liquid evaporation. Ya think? Here is a link about seam repair that was posted in one of these forms. It’s a very good article and answers y...

I use the red spot putty as well and I have had great results thinning it with Testors Liquid Glue, with no shrinkage!

Hi, pastor! Not to beat this particular horse anymore, but "rubbing" alcohol ALWAYS contains 'rubifactants' or 'oils'. So - no 'rubbing alcohol' for your models. Or mine, for that matter. Odd note - I used to be a rather unofficial Chaplain's Assistant in the Army. Some of the guys wouldn...

Trouble removing oil reside? Should still be OK. The 70% is IPA, 30% water. That's the most powerful antiseptic ratio for isopropyl alcohol. Just to clarify my understanding is that there is oil added to the Isopropyl 70% and normally oil and acrylic don’t usually mix well together. I have only u...

Babaganoosh wrote:Nope. Still works the same. It's a wee bit safer, too.
I was worried about the oil residue and how that might react with acrylic paints.

Thanks

Isopropyl 70% any problems?

I have a question about Isopropyl 70% (USP) sometime called rubbing alcohol. I can’t find the 99% stuff any more. I like to use Isopropyl to clean the surface of my model just before painting and to thin paint in my airbrush. Have any one of you guys found any problems with the 70% stuff? I checke...

For styrene kits, I don't bother with primer. I find the acrylic Tamiya and Gunze paints adhere just fine - but make sure your model is immaculate. Go ahead, tell me it can't be done. If I have a lot of resin, metal and putty, I will use Mr. Surfacer 1000 in the rattlecan. I have painted lots of mo...

Prime or not to prime?

I was wondering what prime modelers these days are using? I use to not prime but paint flat black paint before applying a topcoat. Year’s back I switched to a car prime (gray) and achieved great result. The car primer wet sanded well and bonded well to many different types of paints. But recently ...
