The 4060s are still around and quite cheap! I love 'em! (probably because I've experimented with those more than anything else). You can get several different timings on the 4060 by wiring your LED (including resistor) across the various pins. Get one and try pin #3 or #4 across to pin #13, #14 or #...

Oh yeah, I'm really groovin' on the flashy lights! I've been building models for a long time, but always balked when it came to lighting them up...which I'm kicking myself for not starting into sooner. Electronics is an entirely new fascinating hobby unto itself, and since I've already invested time...

Newbies to electronics and lighting...a rough analogy
I'm new to this whole LED thing myself...I just got started messing around with lighting a few months ago, but I've already done a couple of fun builds for my nephew on internal batteries for him to play with. I have to admit, I was pretty confused at first with all these electronic terms and number...

Oh, and MacFrank (said with a strong scottish accent, like Mahkfrrrehnck!), I think you're absolutely spot-on with the servo idea. I've dug around and found that the Futaba HT-micro servos are just about the right size and operate on 4.8V! They're only about 14 bucks a pop, so these will pretty much...

Drat, that first linear motion slide looks to be the perfect size...but at 89 bucks apiece rules it out as a possibility. Since the load is only a few grams, I might be able to underpower the solenoid. I would like the brake to stay raised as long as the pushbutton switch is closed, so I'm not sure ...

Low Voltage Solenoid or linear Actuator
Do any of you extremely clever fellows know where I could get a miniature solenoid or micro actuator that fits the following constraints: .5" to .75" travel 9V or lower 1" high housing (or smaller) Preferably a push, but a pull solenoid might work too (would require some re-engineerin...

If you're using XP or windows2000, the first thing I would check is your page file size. You can have all the ram in the world, but if your printer driver needs to write a file to convert the pixels in your image to dots for printing on a page, not having enough swap space on your drive will choke t...

Thanks a million Sparky, I really appreciate all that you're doing to clear up my muddlement. I think that the 8mA should still be fine for these whites. I just accidentally burned the fuse in my multimeter. I wanted to see how steady my wall wart was, but forgot to change the setting from 150 mA to...

heh heh, just when I think I've sassed this hoopy thing, I get served a grilled ignorance sandwich with a side of humble pie :D . Okay, so...no resistors between the 12V wallwart and the 4060 + input. Resistors go between the ground and the led(s). The light that burns twice as bright, burns half as...

Ah, I get it now. I bought a tube of 10 of these little wonders, so I'm probably going to use a fresh one in the Analyzer. When I first hooked it all up and got it working, I was running it with only a single 470 ohm in series with the V+. I was so pleased that the little lights were blinking that I...

sparky, yeah, this segment of the circuits had the 8 in parallel. poof! Oh well, I can keep going on other parts of the circuit until the replacements arrive. Hee hee Balok, it was as if 8 voices cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced... If I've learned anything, it's don't power up a lead u...

Ahhhhhso! I believe I'm sassing your hoopy en-'light'-enment. It's a matter of volts available, not current. By george, I think I've got it. I was under the misunderstandingment that one varies the current to the 4060 depending on the quantity of leds that might light in sync. I've got the volts ava...

4060 question
Howdy to all you wire-wrapping, solder-smelling, electro-buddhas out there. I humbly lay my bewilderment at your feet and beg for your guidance. I'm lighting 6 blues and 15 whites. The blues and 8 of the whites will be constantly lit. The other 7 are going to be 4060 driven. Question is: what's the ...
