Re: why i am trying to help and my cautionary tale
This looks like it is about the seventh or so open topic here at SSM on this matter of 'supposed abandonment' so it's a probably as good as any of the others for a response. I noticed a fair while ago the lack of enforced moderation and, haven't heard from One Zero for years nor Linda for about ten...

Re: why i am trying to help and my cautionary tale
Just an FYI, John is not the only one with admin level access and the lack of movement here is due to people having real jobs and the general decline of forums all over. I'm sorry somebody pee'd in your Cheerios. The exit is over there. Do you have any idea what is going on? At the end to the day, ...

Re: Contact Info
Okay, I just tried sending John an email at onezero@starshipmodeler.net. It came back as a mail daemon failure. "Sorry, we were unable to deliver your message to the following address. <onezero@starshipmodeler.net>: 550: No Such User Here" I think we might all be hosed here.

Re: Contact Info
I feel your pain. Use this link to eliminate the 500 error. the SQL error is still there. It works for me and makes it so much easier. https://www.starshipmodeler.net/talk/ I tried but that link just goes to the General Discussion Index,,, That's the one. It looks exactly the same as the regular pa...

Re: What is "scale color", i.e. painting to reflect not full sized object
Due to the size of a model as opposed to the size of the real item it represents (IRL or sci-fi/ fantasy), a model will display color differently than it's full-size counterpart. This is due in part to the 1:1 sized item having more surface area to reflect light back, as opposed to the smaller model...

Re: Dissimilar plastics cement
Permatex plastic weld for me; it's a two part epoxy-like adhesive that is immensely strong, is like plastic and holds tightly. I've used it for a variety of dissimilar plastics.

Re: Burnishing Chrome foil
I use foil adhesive tape, none of the polymer stuff. When I burnish, I use toothpics, an xacto ball-ended burnisher and steel wool to get it where it needs to go. and have gotten it around tight corners and into tight details as well.

Re: ALPS printer: how to stop white from flaking off
Try lightly buffing the decal paper with #0000 grade steel wool before printing. It could be the gloss surface is interfering with adhesion. You're not looking to remove the film; just make it a bit more "matte" for the ink to have enough purchase on it to stick.
