Very Light Aluminum Paint

Post by Thomas E. Johnson »

For an upcoming project I will be needing a very light Aluminum color paint. I see that Alclad 2 makes a "White Aluminum" paint. Is this the color that I'm hoping?

Out of Alclads 4 (or is it 5) Aluminum paints their 'White Aluminum' is the least shiney and has the highest albedo (is that the right term?).

IIRC.

Been using a lot of Aluminum, White Aluminum, and Polished Aluminum.

Yeah, it's probably what you want. It does a good job for aluminum-doped fabric.

Do you have access to Floquil Railroad enamels? You might like to try Platinum Mist, a very light silvery color.

I do, but I won't use enamels. Acrylics and Lacquers only for me.

Another trick to remember with paints like Alclad - putting it over a gloss white will look different from gloss black. And, if you put it over matte paint, you might get a more fabric looking effect.

I would definitely run experiments.

I have applied Alclad over Gunze-Sangyo Mr. Surfacer 1000 rattlecan primer with no problem. These were darker colors, like Exhaust and Dark Aluminum.
