how to make soft flexible tires?

Got a question about techniques, materials or other aspects of physically building a model? This is the place to ask.

how to make soft flexible tires?

Post by OdysseySlipways »

I am looking for somethign that i could cast (if possible) in rubber molds.

These rubber tires will be used on the wheels of my 1:6 scale Tiger tank

I have gotten samples from Smooth-On:

45D
65D

C1515 (black in color)
C1520 (black in color)

not good enough, they are slightly bendable if at all. this won't work. i need something softer.

Progress isn't made by early risers. It's made by lazy men trying to find easier ways to do something.

Urethane rubbers come in a variety of grades. Devcon used to supply a black urethane rubber. You'll have to Google or go to Yelow Pages for a US supplier.

i believe this is the product a guy at the prop forum used to make the top push button for the "PAL" hand held communicator. it looks and feels like rubber.
note the word "beleive" in the above paragraph.

there is also that stuff that is sold at TRU that is used to make insects and such. it has to be baked but IIRC has the tendency of fishing lures.
it is cheap.
