Re: removing electrolplate from parts
Both use Lye as the active ingredient. The biggest differences is that oven cleaner's cheaper, but CSC is a lot stronger. There are hobby oriented paint strippers like Strip-A-Kit and Poly Scale's Easy Lift Off- but I think they're long out of production. But CSC has saved many canopies after I've h...

so why are people going nuclear on him? - Spamming inboxes with unwanted invites to his forum. - Attacking admins and the site owner. - Posts about AST forum states I was fine with him pimping for his site until that started. It is all unwanted content and not relevant discussion. And that's all he...

Re: removing electrolplate from parts
Depends on how long you immerse it and getting a tight seal on the container. I tried stripping my first build of the DS9 Defiant a few years back, and results were mixed. It won't damage/melt soften the styrene, that's for certain.

Back a couple of weeks ago you sent me a PM informing me you had registered me on AST WITHOUT ASKING FOR MY PERMISSION, so kindly delete my account from AST. I am perfectly capable of registering myself which I choose not to do at this time. Can't help but wonder how many other SSM members you've r...

No, I'm saying you should stick to the videos instead of sh!t-talking the owners and the admins in crass attempt to siphon members to your web board and appearing like you're doing us all a solid.

Re: removing electrolplate from parts
20 years ago Tamiya kitted a 1/48 MiG-15 bis that was electroplated ("Silver Color Plated") CSC made short work of it, first stripping the plating, and after a few more hours, the creme yellow undercoating. Bare white plastic underneath all that. Turns out Tamiya uses the same process with...

Feels like it was enabling Secure Sockets Layer (SSL/https) that solved it. SSL was probably in there all along, just not enabled at the boards gateway, and more importantly, our browser bookmarks.

Castrol Super Clean automotive degreaser is what I used. But Castrol divested and I think it's just called SuperClean now. Reportedly, the formula is not the same. CSC was pretty caustic stuff. (it will eat almuminum, but will not damage styrene) CSC was the only thing that could take chrome *and* t...

Re: Burnishing Chrome foil
I don't like Bare Metal Foil for large applications. It's fine if you're doing say, a N1 starfighter, or chrome trim on a car model. But once you wrap an entire model with foil- it looks like a model wrapped in foil. I wish Alclad II wasn't so damn noxious. (Lacquer) but that's what I'm planning wit...

Still have the old Pactra International colors in my stash. (1980s) Haven't cracked them open, but the carriers are still liquid, so some of the pigments may have settled. If I ever get back on a Japanese WW2 A/C kick, I'll find out. Even if the pigment has settled to the bottom of the jar and its a...
